I'm sitting in the van, in the pouring rain, waiting for Andrew at his Boy Scout meeting. He needs to attend one meeting as a requirement to earn his Arrow of Light. When he first walked in, several boys yelled out his name. He sat down next to one of his friends. His friend said, "This is my best friend." Then another boy said, "He's my best friend, too." Then another boy said, "Yeah, he's sort of my best friend, too." I just wanted to go up and hug each of those boys and tell them thank you for being his friend! And I was proud of Andrew because it's a testament of his character that others want to claim him as their friend. He is an amazing kid and I'm so proud of him.
Yesterday, Andrew had his 5th Grade Patriotic Program at school. He didn't talk about the program at all at home so I had no idea what he would be doing. If I had known he was going to be one of the Founding Fathers, I would have helped him dress a little better for it!
I saw him in his baseball socks that morning, but it was crazy sock day at school so I thought nothing about it. He remembered to bring his church shoes though! Haha! He said he wanted to surprise me, and I was! And so proud. He had quite a few lines to memorize AND the entire 5th grade memorized the Declaration of Independence! It was amazing. I told him next time, though, Moms like to have a little more warning so we know to stake out a good spot up front to take video. And to dress you better. He was Thomas Jefferson for the 4th Grade Wax Museum last year, for crying out loud!:
Maybe that's why he didn't tell me. Haha!
