"You don’t marry someone because he’s your soul mate; he becomes your soul mate because you married him." - Julia Shaw

31 March 2013

"Ok!"

When it gets quiet, I'll holler out for Connor, "Connor?"  "Connor?"  "What are you doing?"
His response is always, "Ok!"  And comes running to find me.  He may or may not have been getting into trouble.  He has been climbing out of his crib.  At first it was dozens of times.  Randy or I put him back in each time, no talking, no eye contact.  He tries to interact with us, "Hi!"  "Hi?"  Eventually, he gets tired or bored and stays in his bed.  Lately, though, I just don't want to play that game anymore.  So I give him a stern talking to, "Connor.  You stay in your bed."  He says, "Ok."  It just melts my heart every time.  How can you be mad at a little critter like that, he's just too cute.

Happy Easter!

Naughtiness Happening Here

He has Joshy's untouchable lego spaceship and his pants are all wet.  Naughty, naughty baby.

First Stroll

We've been waiting for this day a looong time.  Finally warm enough to get out for a stroll.

Jacob @ 3 months

Oh, poor fourth child.  It's true.  You take less pictures.  We've been having fun getting to know this sweet little boy.  Here are some of the things he's up to these days:

  • He was born with hair on his ears.  It's the cutest thing ever.  The hair is still there.Randy calls them Hobbit ears.
  • He was born with these amazingly long eyelashes.  They've thickened up, it's crazy how long they are!  And I'm now a lot more confident his eyes will stay blue.  We have two brown eyed babies and two blue.
  • He sleeps in his swing day and night.  I don't know how parents have new babies without one.  We can probably switch him to a crib by now, but we haven't set it up yet!  He's a good little sleeper.  Usually wakes up once at night and takes good naps.  Thank you Jacob!
  • He had all of his renal testing last month.  The poor thing had to have an IV and a catheter, he was not happy about that, but he did really well.  His kidney and ureter are still dilated, but the pediatric urologist said it wasn't severe and that he wouldn't need surgery.  Both kidneys are functioning almost equally, which is a good sign.  The urologist thinks that the connection between the ureter and bladder are underdeveloped.  He'll have another ultrasound at 6 months.
  • He hates the carseat, making him a not very portable baby.  He is so happy when he's at home.  Thus, we don't go out very much.

Jacob is a Blessed Baby

Today was Jacob's big day.  I love this picture, it was the only one we got before the camera died and I just know we'll look at it with fondness years from now.

I tried my best to write down the words of Jacob's blessing from Randy:
Jacob Wesley Lamb.  Heavenly Father loves you.  Your mom and dad love you.  You are blessed to have three older brothers.  I bless you to learn the gospel in your home.  That you will be healthy, that your organs will be healthy and strong and perform their proper function they were intended to.  That you will have a testimony of Jesus and who he was.  And that your days as a baby will be happy.

Mommy Bootcamp

Whoa Nelly, there are moments each day when I feel like I'm in Mommy Bootcamp.  I think I've got a handle on things, then Jacob decides he doesn't want to eat (and then Mastitis and a dwindling milk supply).  Or Connor decides climbing out of his crib is real fun.  Or we need to go to Costco and I time Jacob's feedings poorly and I end up with a screaming baby with everyone staring at me.  I've tried getting into a workout routine, and it's more stress and hassle than worth it.  Homework and picking up and dropping off. Discipline!  Giving each child enough attention.  Meal planning, shopping, cleaning!  A fussy baby and a crying toddler - who do I attend to first?!  And let's not forget the being up at all hours of the night.  There are times when it's just so overwhelming.  But then I think about how far we've come as a family.  How truly lucky I am.  To have these sweet babies.  To be able to stay home with them.  To snuggle and love on them to my heart's content.  To have a husband that works hard for us and is invested in our lives.  This time, as hard as it is, is fleeting.  I'm just trying to hang on tight and enjoy the ride!

Retirement Plan

Randy calls me around lunchtime everyday, and most of the time, we don't have much to talk about.  But today I asked Randy if he realized that it's almost been 20 years since we've graduated high school (this May marks 17 years).  I think my impending 35th birthday has made me think about how old I'm getting, not that I think 35 is old, but I can't believe how fast time is going.  I mean it feels like just yesterday I graduated high school!  And I feel 18!  (But I don't feel as dumb as I was at 18).  Anyway, it got us talking about how before we know it, we'll be grandparents...and retired.  I told him it made me feel sad to think of my babies all grown up, but he reminded me that I'll still be busy with fun things.  And then we dreamed of what we'll do with our grandbabies.  We want to rent an RV (we decided owning one would be too much hassle) and go visit all the national parks.  Sounds like a plan to me!

2012 in Status

All of my 2012 Facebook status updates.  (I wish Blogger and Facebook could be "friends")

We're going to Wheeler Farm tomorrow (we'll leave around 10:30) and Living Planet Aquarium on Friday if anyone wants to come play with us.

Please admire the cuteness growing inside my belly...

We're mourning the loss of the Shoreline Playground today. It was removed and donated to another park.

My poor mom went to Vegas last weekend, fell on and shattered her elbow. Had to have surgery in Vegas (lots of pins, I wish I could send the picture, but it's on my phone and it's not a fancy phone, Jamie can you do it?) She's home and will start PT in a week. Send love her way.

40% off Stuff & Save @ Old Navy today. I've got my eye on a chevron print skirt.

Does anyone else have to go to the store multiple times a week just for bananas and milk?

The Lamb Fam is signing off all screens for one whole week. Wish us luck.

I'm trying to find out the exact address of her funeral. Just message me if you know the address. Joleen had a profound influence on me and my mom. Such an amazing lady.

It's the end of our screen free week and we all failed miserably. It was a nice idea in theory, though.

Went to the gym, the Kids Club had to be evacuated because someone brought their child with pink eye, so we headed to Wal Mart to pick up a few things - bought the boys kites - when we got to the car, the kites were half slipping out of the cart and one was missing, so we retraced our steps back into the store with no luck. When we got back to the car, I noticed a lady walking to her car and checking out the new kite she scored. Went back into the store to buy another kite and the lines were twice as long as the first go round. Sounds like a Monday to me.

I'm going to pretend I have energy today and actually clean something.

Just reserved our hotel room and purchased tickets to Disneyland! So. Excited.

I'm craving gummy bears & peanut butter - mixed together. This is why I turn into a heffalump every pregnancy. Why can't I crave veggies?

I'll be sportin' the ponytail for awhile. It's a good thing that hair grows back!

"Lamby the Lovey" is a genuine member of our family. I can totally relate with this article, even though I also admit that it's pathetic. May Lamby never get lost.

I am in serious need of a Girl's Night. Teppanyaki sounds good. Or Red Mango. Or whatever. Anyone?

A little (a lot) nervous for Randy's "roasting" at his graduation tonight. Is it only at the U or is this just a medical tradition at all institutions? They did it in med school, too.

I was listening to Sarah McLachlan the other day while I was cleaning - I loved her so much in my college days, I have all of her CD's and know all the songs. But now the lyrics just seem so depressing! I guess my tastes have changed. I like bright happy things, there's already too much sad in the world to add to it :).

We're going to Red Mango tonight at 9 (instead of 8). Anyone is welcome! It's the one on 21st South.

I wish I were computer savvy. I'm ready to chuck our stupid laptop out the window!

I just made a frightening discovery. You can order Devil Dogs on Amazon.

Today is Andrew's birthday and around 11 ish, we'll head out to the playground to set up the slip n slide. We'll have popsicles, too. If you can come out, please do!
I'm keeping these guys in business this summer.  (Dreyer's fruit bars)

I feel the baby more and more each day. Even the 4th time around, it never gets old.

Just purged our closet. 3 hours, 7 trash bags and 4 DI bags later, it is sparkling. Randy has the week off and this is what we like to do for fun.

Finally went shopping today. Yay for pants that fit!!

I scare myself sometimes. We've been talking for WEEKS about Scout Camp. Even yesterday we talked about it. Totally spaced it today - the day it starts. He was only an hour late and when we got there, they were just starting their activities, but still, where is my brain?! Scary.

I'm starting all over with baby clothes because I gave them all away after Connor. I've been to a few places, but I'm super picky - no animal prints, anything cutesy, or #1 champion sports stuff. I like solid colors or simple designs - not easy to find. But I went to Kid to Kid today and found 5 very cute outfits and only spent $12. Score! Also Old Navy has some cute Lamb stuff, not cutesy - we love Lambs around here :).

I've always detested Zumba - but my pregnant body loooooves it!

Anyone know a good resume and cover letter writer? That also specializes in the medical field? It's FINALLY that time to start looking for a real job :).

Do fridge locks really work? I'm not going to mention any names, but someone in our house is constantly in it and it's driving me craaazzzy!

Anyone know any doulas-in-training that need a guinea pig to practice on? I'm looking for a low cost or free (even better) doula for around Dec. 1st - SLC area.

We are REALLY good at making boys. Of course, Randy and the boys are thrilled. Me, well, I didn't cry. And I'm grateful he is healthy. And doesn't he look cute? Can't wait to snuggle him - halfway there!

I nest during the 2nd trimester - I'm mostly lazy, but then I get these insane bursts of energy and I *have* to clean something. So far, I've gone through our closets and the entire basement. I love going down to the basement just to admire my work :).

I need book ideas! Preferably, the happy-page-turner-kind. I've exhausted my list and I know I must be missing some good ones out there.

Does anyone know when the RS Activity starts tonight? It's tonight, right?

First Sunday with Randy on the stand. My three monkeys were shockingly well behaved and we got to church on time! I'm sure I'll be eating my words soon enough, though :).

Why can't BBC and America get along? We're always way behind getting their stuff. (Which is infinitely better than what is produced over here!) Merlin, Sherlock, Downton Abbey. I'm dying over here!"
I love my husband :)

To Connor: Are you a good guy or a bad guy?
Connor: I a good guy!!

Kills me every time.

If you've won the battle over sweets/carbs cravings, PLEASE tell me your secrets. My brain has forgotten self-control and it's a little insane over here.

Just found out we'll be Sacramento-ans for a year Randy has been offered a 1-year surgical pathology fellowship at UC Davis Med Ctr. We are beyond thrilled!

Oh man. All I can think about are caramel apples from Rocky Mtn Chocolate Factory.

Just had lunch with a girl I've never met whose husband wants to go into medicine. She wanted to get together to ask questions about medical life. I just hope I gave her an accurate picture without scaring her too much!

Baby boy #4 is making sure he'll get plenty of attention when he makes his arrival. We had a follow-up ultrasound today and his right kidney is still dilated and is having a hard time draining properly. Everything else looks normal and no intervention is needed until after he is born. The radiologist knew Randy and took the extra time to explain everything and sent us her report (finally, a doctor husband comes in handy!) - she doesn't sound too worried and said it's very treatable. Obviously, I'll worry. :) I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow, can't wait to cuddle this sweet little guy!

Pregnant women should be exempt from getting any type of G.I. bug. Ugh. As long as I'm lying down, I feel fine, but I need to do stuff today!

Ok, I spend a small fortune on blog books every year. I purchase one for the grandparents and then one for each of my boys. My question: Do you think the boys will actually want/appreciate them later on down the road?

I think 3:45 am is my new official wake time, I've been doing it consistently for the last couple of weeks.

I hope it just snows and snows and snows. All winter. Don't hate me.

Dang it, Daddy can't go trick or treating with us tonight. The downside to the medical life. :(

Bring on the Christmas music! Don't hate me.

Took the boys to vote with me this morning - what I think is interesting is they never I asked who I voted for. They just wanted to be there.

Now that it's over, I won't feel compelled to listen to talk radio anymore. Blech. Hey, did you know FM 106.5 is playing Christmas music now? ♥

It's snowing. We're warm and comfy cozy inside listening to Christmas music. The house is clean. The 2 year old is napping. My belly is big with a fat squirmy baby. What can be better than this?

R.I.P. "Boo the Betta fish.  Sorry we killed you today.

It's been a sewing extravaganza over here. Confession: I can't sew a straight line to save my life. I never prewash the fabric. And I really don't like sewing. I like picking out fabric.

Does anyone want an insane 2 year old?

Ran errands with my three monkey children and I wasn't looking forward to coming home to the mess we left. Randy got to come home early from work, and I got to come home to a clean house! That was the best!

Connor gives the most delicious kisses. And on demand.

My blood pressure won the race. Induction set for this Wed. Excited and terrified :).

Baby came the night before induction. And not a minute too soon. When we arrived at L&D, baby was out in 10 minutes. Crazy birth....again. I've got to stop doing that!
Jacob Wesley born Nov. 27, 6:07 pm. 8 lb. 2 oz. 20 inches. We're home and doing great. His kidney looked improved at his ultrasound on Tuesday (before he was born). He will have a follow up in 4 weeks. He looks like a Joshy (light eyes, nose, lips, chin). Good little eater and such a joy!

So we didn't name Jacob after one of Randy's good med school buddies (one of the "B-Teamers"), but we definitely admire him. I just found out today that our Jacob was born on the "B-Team" Jacob's birthday - love it!

Not gonna lie. 4 kids. Kicking my butt.

Celebrating our 12th anniversary tonight. For now: Dinner and some grocery shopping with baby in tow. Someday: A Hawaiian cruise. (Hopefully sooner than later :).

My mommy's coming to town! Yay!!

Looks like I made it on the nice list. A package from Lululemon came today (but don't worry Santa, I won't open it until Christmas) :)

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas...

Grateful for the gifts, but now where do I put all this stuff?!?

Les Miserables - so good.

Just cleaned up the toys. The 2 year old is now throwing them all out of their toy box with reckless abandon. Guess it's nap time for him. And me.

So. Who wants to sit next to us at church each week? Any takers? Elise Wannberg? Thais Pino Abraham? Caiti Christensen? Chelsea Hobson Theurer? Megan Gorringe Dixon? Cheyenne Schmid Clayson? This mama is going to need some help, for sure!

Jacob is growing something green on his tongue!! Back to the pediatrician tomorrow. His ultrasound last week shows an enlarged ureter on the right side, we'll consult with a ped. urologist to see what we need to do next. Otherwise, he's a dream baby. Eat, sleeps, poops. And I indulge in snuggling as often as possible.

Post Christmas

Whenever I see Randy snuggled with one of the babies, I can't resist pulling out my camera. Randy wasn't much of a cuddler when I first married him, but over the years, we've worn on him. He's a pro now.

The boys got these headlamps from Great Grandma Doris for Christmas.  They were a big hit with these three.

Jacob's 1st Month

My cute neighbor Danica and her baby, Ace.  We were due a week apart.
